Weekly Practice
Practice is held five days a week during the season. The first one or two weeks are generally held in the afternoon while school is in session. Once school is out, practice is held in the morning. Please see the events list on the home page for exact times and dates.
Practice guidelines:
- The more your swimmers practice, the stronger they will be and the more improvement can be made to their technique.
- Coaches prefer to see kids at least 3 days/week and always on Friday which helps confirm events/relays for the Saturday meet.
- Get to know your swimmers’ coach(s). They are there to both help the swimmers and the parents. Parents must refrain from approaching the coaches while they are working their age group. This greatly impairs their ability to coach while swimmers are in the water. Please wait until there is a slack time, after practice or even make an appointment.
Weather guidelines:
- We will be having practice unless bad weather conditions exist.
- Do not come if there is rain, lightning, snow, tornados, or any other major natural disaster.
- We will have practice even if there is drizzle or if it's cool outside.
- Please do NOT call the front desk about practice.
- Do check the home page of the website at www.sgccgators.com. The practice status box will inform you of the day's current practice status.
- If practice has been cancelled because of weather, it will be posted on the website's home page.
- Remember, just because there may not be a 13-14, 15-18 practice, does not mean that there will not be am 8 & under practice. Please check the Hotline and/or Website for information about each practice.
Stroke and Turn Clinic
In an effort to get everyone off to the best possible start in the do's and don'ts of swimming, the GATORS coaching staff will be conducting stroke and turn clinics one night a week during the season. Please see the events list on the home page for exact times and dates. For those interested, check out the Stroke Rules for the do's and don't of the various strokes.
Mock Meet
For those new to swimming and/or for those wanting to know more about how the meets work, the GATORS conduct a mock meet one evening before the first real meet. Please see the events list on the home page for exact day and time.
